Dating to circa 1700, this silk and wool tapestry from Brussels (at the time of the weaving, Brussels was a city within the Habsburgian Netherlands) depicts the Divine Order of the Universe.  An elaborate rinceau of flowering vines, cherubs, birds, and mascarons is dotted with several cartouches that are a visual meditation on The Divine Order of the Universe.  Near the top of the tapestry is a bird with fire in its talons, representing the phoenix in flames, which in spirituality is used as resurrection and the eternal soul.  Near the middle is the virtuous lamb, denoting purity, sacrifice, and adhering to the gentle path.  At the bottom is a flowering vase, which symbolizes the worldly roots from which the spirit rises, manifesting in the physical world as the rich and beautiful flowering vines that connect all of the cartouches.

CONDITION:  Good antique condition.  Very small loss to lower right, which includes the verso liner.  Commensurate age separations for a 320+ year old tapestry.  Minor stains to the verso, with some small areas of discoloration to the front.
