French woodworkers in Normandy were known to incorporate agricultural carvings into their furniture, as a homage to the rural region that most of these ebenistes came from.  This gorgeous oak buffet, hand-carved circa 1800, is from the commune Mont Saint Michel, which has a mainland locale, as well as a tidal island.  Numerous carvings on the front of the buffet depict the nature’s importance to the region, such as curled volutes, scalloped leaf tips, and florets.  The interior behind the doors, as well as the two belt drawers, is also lined with a cream and red upholstery that also showcases the rural heritage of the area, showing farmers, harvesters, and various wildlife.

CONDITION:  Good antique condition.  Minor losses as a result of old woodworm, some of which have been filled with old restoration work.  Commensurate age separations.  Very light rubs and water stains to the top.  Light lifting of the textile lining of the interior.  Functional door locks with key (this key does not engage the locks on the drawers).
