From the period of Napoleon III (circa 1850), this French giltwood mirror has a parcloses form, with four smaller mirrors surrounding the main mirror. Also referred to as a cushion mirror, the large mirror is separated by a border of beading. The smaller mirrors are divided by musical trophies set at an angle. Topped by a beautiful crown consisting of two birds perched on a trophy of a quiver of arrows and a torch, all surrounded by flowering margents.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Presence of old touch-ups to giltwood. Minor nicks and losses to frame, revealing traces of red bole, which is desired. Light loss of silvering to glass, most noticeably the main mirror, which is also welcomed. Eyelet in the back, but we recommend using additional rigging when hanging. A previous owner installed wooden “feet” to the back, but these can be removed if hung on a wall.
