Decorative Antique French Vineyard Injector by Vermorel, Circa 1880

Description

Used at a French vineyard to prevent phylloxera infestation of grapevines (the insect almost wiped out French vineyards in the late 1800’s), this brass vineyard injector dates to circa 1880. Beneath a capped intake port on the large cylindrical reservoir is a production mark that indicates the injector was manufactured by Vermorel in their Villefranche factory. By the late 1800s, Vermorel had shifted from agricultural machinery to automotive products, aligning with our estimate of the 1880s. A copper placard on the side opposite the Vermorel mark also indicates production occurred around 1880.  The insecticide would have been administered by pressing down on the plunger that is flanked by a wooden T-shaped handle. Repellent would be released through a small aperture in the iron stake that is implanted in the ground. A unique decorative accessory, our French vineyard injector is perfect for a wine cellar or bar.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Light losses to wood handle, Traces of old paint stains above the injector tip. Fleabites and minor rubs to brass.
