Known in France as a porte-revues, this music sheet holder from the early 1900s has a “U” or “V” shaped form with beautiful caning on both sides. An elaborate hand-carved Louis XVI-style trophy surmounts each lattice. The trophies consist of an oval ring around a quiver of arrows, a floral band, and a torch that are bound by a crinkled ribbon bow that hangs down from a scalloped shell that forms a crest on each side. Floral margents grace the upper corners of each side, partially covering the recessed molding that borders most of the shapely caned sections. Four slender S-scroll legs with small arrow feet are connected by a modified H-stretcher, all of which are embellished with small rosettes. Designed for practical use, such as holding magazines, books, or music sheets, the high-level craftsmanship of our caned porte-revues allows it to be used as a decorative piece in a living room, library, or sitting room.
