Hand-carved in 12 pieces of French stone, this fireplace mantel dates to the early- to mid-1600, placing it in the period of Louis XIII. Taken from a chateau in La Meuse, France, the large mantel is adorned with a coat of arms on the lintel, although it is possible that the carving was added later, as it is dated 1704.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate losses and buildup to the stone. Small areas have been restored. Large fragments (as a result of excavation from property) will need to be mortared into place during installation.
