Entitled Le Triomphe de Bacchus (The Triumph of Bacchus), this terra cotta sculpture from the 1800s is after Claude Michel, aka Clodion. The grouping depicts Bacchus and Ariadne, side by side, with a lion pelt and loose fabric draped over their bodies. Ariadne reaches upwards to a putti sitting on Bacchus’ shoulders, as he reaches towards Ariadne. A second putti is beside Ariadne holding a tambourine over his head as the quartet walks barefoot across the rocky terrain.
CONDITION: Good overall antique condition with fleabites, minor losses, and age separations. Traces of old repairs. Please see photos.
