A coffret, such as this studded leather one, would have been used in France during the mid-1800s to store small, but invaluable items. Our small table trunk features a dome top that was often seen on larger travel trunks (this was done to prevent baggage handlers from stacking heavy items on top of the trunk, possibly crushing the contents inside). All sides, as well as the top, are covered in tanned leather that is affixed by numerous brass nailheads. Most of the attaching nails follow the edges of the trunk, except for a lozenge on top of the lid and a triangle around the keyplate. The lid opens to reveal a scarlet upholstery interior, which is easily discernible from the chocolate and caramel-hued leather exterior. Our studded leather table coffret can be used with any type of interior design style, making it an attractive decorative accessory for a console, sofa table, or countertop.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor buildup and lifting to interior upholstery. Commensurate wear to leather (chapping, losses, and rubs). Functional lock with key takes precision.
