Hand-carved in the Regence style, this pair of French armchairs from the 1800s have beautiful verdure tapestry upholsteries. The textiles depict a forested landscape of green, gold, orange, brown, and white, with each chair back having a clearing that reveals faint architecture in the distance. The light brown hue of the wood allows the detailed carvings of leaves, scalloped shells, arabesque, and foliate margents to visually compete with the upholstery, which is affixed by numerous small nailheads.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Trivial amount of missing nailheads. Minor age separations to the tapestry, with very light nicks and rubs to the wood, although one of the legs has an old restoration. Light stains to the verso of one chair, while the other verso needs to be retacked.
