Pair of Early 1900s French Medieval Style Wrought Iron Torch Sconces

$1,800.00

Description

Crafted in the early 1900s to evoke the feeling of a Medieval castle torch, this pair of French wrought iron sconces features a cylindrical enclosure around a single illumination point. The painted black finish augments the robust appearance, although the sconces are surprisingly lightweight, making them easy to affix to a wall. An elongated dropdown noix has subtle hammer marks, adding to the character of the sconces. Taught chains wrap around the noix, connecting to an angular and barbed backplate that echo the fleur de lys that adorn the tips of the flared basket around the light source. The sconces are currently not wired, allowing for great flexibility in the final installation, as a homeowner can opt for gas, electric, or candle-powered illumination. Sometimes, sconces such as this Medieval-style pair can be seen paired with glass globes, which help to disperse the glow of the light.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor buildup. Fleabites and light losses to painted finish, resulting in very light oxidation. The sconces are not currently wired, leaving options for final use (gas, electric, or candle).
