Description

A celebration of a traditional French hunt of the late 1800s, this pair of Black Forest-style panels has been hand-carved from oak. In the center of each rectangular panel is a high-relief trophy of a successful hunt, bounded by an oval of spiral lobes and leaf tips. Each panel has a distinctive bounty: one of a felled rabbit, and one of a muscular stag. Both animals surmount a display of hunting accoutrements and homage to nature, such as a horn, satchels, powder flasks, and branches of oak and laurel leaves. Another border of spiral lobes and leaf tips embellishes the edges of the panels, with a foliate sprig in each corner, set inside the molding. Our oak Black Forest panels are well-carved and would make beautiful sculptural wall elements. They could also be utilized as doors for custom cabinetry, such as a bar area or for a gun cabinet.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Very light age separations with fleabites, light losses, and minor rubs. Professional restoration to one panel. Not rigged for hanging.
