Similar pots to these were used in the South of France during the 17th century for the planting of orange and lemon trees on noble estates. Hand-made in traditional ways, this pair of large Anduze pots is adorned with fleur de lys and has an ivory yellow glaze. The raised portions, such as the fleur de lys, floral swags, and the Le Chêne Vert Anduze seals, show through the well-done finish, which has exposed areas of the terracotta orange.
Today, these pots can be used for any type of planting or on their own as decorative pieces of pottery. It is advised to use a liner when planting in these pots (no direct planting). During the winter months, if possible, they should be moved to a covered area to protect them from frost.
CONDITION: Good condition. Intentional distress, presenting as loss of glaze. Fleabites and very light rubs, with minor glaze craquelure. Light buildup to interior.
