Sigonce Large Carved Spill Bowl Limestone Wall Fountain from Provence, France

SOLD

Description

Consisting of 17 pieces of French limestone, this large wall fountain has been hand-carved in the tradition of Provencal village wall fountains. A semi-circular protrusion, which measures 23 ½ inches by 11 ½ inches, has been positioned beneath the iron spout, acting as a spill bowl that gives the fountain a unique multi-layered sound.

The wide, rectangular basin that the spill bowl empties into is comprised of six large stones. 11 stones make up the back wall, which includes the spill bowl protrusion near the base of the wall. A carved concentric circular aperture houses the well-oxidized iron spout in the center of the wall. Topped by a thick crown with subtle cyma molding that is mirrored by large corbels at the base of the wall, the mainly rectilinear wall fountain is softened by the addition of these curves. In addition, most of the stones have been carved with a slight recession that follows the overall shape of the back wall, with the exception of canted corners. True to the French limestone, the fountain has a lovely cream tone with accents of white and tan. Our spill bowl wall fountain would make a wonderful addition to any courtyard or large expanse, such as a well-maintained rose garden.

CONDITION: Good condition with intentional distress, presenting as nicks and losses. The iron spout has a lovely, oxidized patina. Limestone can change colors with exposure to the elements. Please contact us for photos of the current patina.
