Depicting the royal coat of arms of France, this small cast iron fireback would make a wonderful addition to a mantel of proportionate size. The fireback has a blackened finish, which has been accentuated by a coat of wax, which allows the motifs to be visibly seen. The heraldic shield with three fleur de lys is topped by a large closed crown. The coat of arms sits atop a foliate console with a croix pattée. The fireback would also make an intriguing backsplash in a kitchen.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate pitting from the casting process. Minor nicks and rubs. The fireback has been waxed and buffed recently. This process may need to be repeated every few years to help prevent faded motifs.
